Volvo Recharge Pure Electric and Plug-in Hybrid Options
It's clear by now that the internal combustion engine's days are numbered as the auto industry's primary propulsion source. The automobile's destiny is electric, an inevitability that fits perfectly with Volvo's plans for the future. While some manufacturers are just now getting into the game, Volvo has been playing for a while, and is now one of the few automakers with an alternative energy variant for each one of its models. And Volvo Recharge vehicles are part of the Swedish company's goal to offer a lineup that is 50-percent electric and 50-percent plug-in hybrid by 2025.
- Recharge Plug-in Hybrid: Previously designated T8, Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrid models combine a twincharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and battery pack. This PHEV powertrain produces a potent 400 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque and enables an all-electric driving range of 18 to 22 miles depending on the model. The Recharge PHEV powertrain is available across Volvo's lineup, except on the XC40, which gets the all-electric powertrain.
- Recharge Pure Electric: As Volvo's first-ever fully-electric production model, the XC40 Recharge P8 finds its motivation in a 78 kWh battery pack powering an electric motor on each axle. And with 402 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of near-instantaneous torque, the XC40 Recharge can sprint from zero to 60 mph in under 4.7 seconds. Additionally, a 208-mile range and makes it perfect for Keller, TX drivers seeking an emissions-free solution to the morning commute. And with a 150 kW DC fast charger, the XC40 Recharge can refill its battery from ten to 80 percent in about 40 minutes.
